
Balázs Bánky
Dr. Balázs Bánky, MD, PhD, FEBS (Coloproctology), is an Associate Professor and Head of the Coloproctology Team at the Department of Surgery, Transplantation and Gastroenterology, Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary. He is a board-certified general surgeon with a special interest in colorectal, minimally invasive, and robotic surgery. Following his colorectal fellowship at North Tees University Hospital (United Kingdom), he has developed extensive expertise in advanced laparoscopic, transanal, and robotic colorectal procedures. His research focuses on rectal cancer surgery, perioperative care, ERAS, prehabilitation, surgical audit, and clinical outcomes research. He serves as principal investigator or collaborator in several national and international clinical trials and multicentre registries. Dr. Bánky is a PhD supervisor and actively contributes to surgical education and postgraduate training. He is a former National Representative of the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP) and currently serves on the executive boards of the Hungarian Society of Surgeons' Coloproctology and Endoscopic Surgery Sections. He has authored more than 75 peer-reviewed publications, delivered over 200 scientific presentations, and has an h-index of 14. His current academic and clinical work is dedicated to improving the quality of colorectal surgery through innovation, multidisciplinary collaboration, and evidence-based perioperative care.
