
Marie Demian
Marie Demian has been the research associate in colorectal surgery for over 10 years at the Jewish General Hospital, McGill University. She has a particular interest on Low Anterior Resection Syndrome (LARS) which started with a focus group with cancer patients discussing their lives with LARS. The expedient need and importance to improve quality of life for patients post cancer treatment took precedence. Marie has dedicated a significant portion of her career to improving the quality of life for colorectal cancer survivors living with LARS. Her research work is deeply patient-centered and addresses various aspects of patient care, from studies on LARS peer support, LARS app with patient forums and live chats, patient centered program for LARS, to transanal irrigation studies. She was interviewed as a LARS researcher with knowledge and expertise in the field. Marie has a genuine interest and strong commitment to helping patients living with LARS navigate the challenging aftereffects of cancer treatments, both physically and emotionally.
