
Yosuke Atsumi, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Yosuke Atsumi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery at Yokohama City University, Japan, specializing in colorectal surgery. He received his MD from Yokohama City University in 2009 and his PhD from the same institution in 2020. He has spent much of his clinical and academic career within the Yokohama City University surgical program and its affiliated hospitals and has also worked at Kanagawa Cancer Center while remaining actively engaged in colorectal cancer research.
He is a qualified surgeon under the Endoscopic Surgical Skill Qualification System of the Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery (JSES) and is also a JSES-certified proctor for robot-assisted colorectal surgery.
His research interests include minimally invasive colorectal surgery, treatment strategies for early colorectal cancer, and functional outcomes after rectal cancer surgery. His published multicentre research includes a comparison of additional surgical resection with observation after endoscopic treatment for high-risk T1 colorectal cancer, as well as an investigation of the prevalence and risk factors of low anterior resection syndrome based on the international consensus definition.
